Trafi story
In the bustling streets of Vilnius, Lithuania, an innovative idea took root in 2013. A group of then students - Algimantas, Jurgis, Mantas, and Martynas driven by a shared passion for solving complex urban mobility challenges, set out to make Vilnius city journeys simpler and more sustainable for every citizen. This led to the creation of Trafi, a multi-modal journey planning platform designed to redefine the way cities and their citizens navigate urban transport.
At its core, the Trafi app was built as a solution to the daily transport challenges faced by the majority of Vilnius residents - such as no clear public transport schedules, and too many apps to switch from just to purchase a ticket.
While functioning as a B2C app for a few years, It wasn’t long before Trafi founders realized the potential of the B2G business model (Business to Government) in 2017 helping Trafi win their first client BVG and build a multi-modal MaaS app - Jelbi in 2019. As the app’s popularity rose, Trafi expanded its reach, growing and building a large MSP (Mobility Service Provider) integrations library to meet the needs of each new city it served.
Today, Trafi’s Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS) platform is at the heart of some of Europe’s most complex transport systems, trusted by major cities such as Berlin, Brussels, Portsmouth, Southampton, Munich, and Zurich. Trafi’s technology is not just about facilitating easier travel but is also a crucial tool in helping cities achieve their sustainability goals that go in alignment with the EU Green Deal.
Trafi’s white-label product offers a comprehensive suite of features, integrations, and customization options that empower cities to launch their own branded fully integrated multi-modal journey planning platforms. With over 50 deep integrations, ticketing, verification, payment, and mobility service providers, Trafi offers a product that reduces risk, cost, and time-to-launch for cities embarking on their smart and sustainable mobility journey.
From its humble beginnings in Vilnius to its rise as one of the major suppliers of urban mobility solutions across Europe, Trafi continues to help cities reclaim their streets.
